The Usual Suspects Spoiler!!! Who is Keyser Soze? Watch this movie before reading this!!!
Back when I was in this barbershop quartet in Skokie, Illinois...is where it all begins. The greatest story ever told, from the greatest movie ever made. The Usual Suspects. Sometimes you just need to step back and take it all in... Bricks Marlin, Redfoot, Guatemala, Skokie, Illinois, Kobayashi...the foot straightens out, the hand flexes and lights a cigarette. Holy Sh*t!! Are you f***ing kidding me??!! I need to watch this again... Did Verbal Kint make up Keyser Soze? Or did Keyser Soze make up Verbal Kint? Is it all made up? What the F**K just happened??!! The second time I watched it my stomach fell just the same. 3,4,5,6...it never fails to drop my jaw as the bottom of the coffee cup comes to a rest. Kobayashi Porcelain, no f***ing way. OK, so you can look at it two ways, right? To believe that Verbal Kint manipulated everyone into thinking there was a Keyser Soze to cover his ass would mean that he would have had to have convinced the one man that could finger him on the boat(Edie Finneran was the witness's attorney) the hungarians and argentinians who made the deal for him in the first place, as well as the fbi guy, who seemed to believe in Soze too, why else would he be involved in the case, so that can't be right. The other is to believe that Soze was real, and he manipulated the world into believing in Verbal Kint. So there definitely is a Soze. It is possible though, that Verbal Kint has just been running a long con on the world with his "Keyser Soze" persona, but I don't think so. Most of the story is told through Kint, and at least the details are bullsh**, but the broad strokes are completely true. The facts are: 1.The boat caught on fire and exploded 2. there was no f***ing coke on the f****ing boat 3. there was one dead south american with two bullet holes in his noggin on the boat 4. one crispy Hungarian witness in the hospital 5. dead Hungarians and Argentinians all over the harbor 6. one seriously interested F.B.I. agent 7. Hockney, Fenster, McManus, Keaton, and Kint were in a lineup together 8. New York's Finest Taxi Service got hit 9. Kint is as cold as ice, he put one in the forehead of the guy in the garage without blinking. 10. Someone has exerted his considerable sphere of influence on the system, and Kint made a sweet deal 11. Edie Finneran is dead 12. Hockney, Fenster, McManus, and Keaton are dead... their bodies just haven't all been identified yet 13.Verbal Kint smokes like a European and has a sweet Jaguar with a personal driver/hit man who is also European. 14. Therefore, I think Soze was the "real" person and Verbal Kint was the character that he ran cons with, in order to be present to wrangle the wills of men, to be present to keep an eye on the situation so he could control it and dictate the outcome. The con leading to the hit went just as he described to Agent Coujan, but the details like names and descriptions of people were bull. There was no "real" Verbal Kint, just a "worthless rat cripple" that no one would ever suspect. The con was meant to get Soze close enough to do the hit to be sure it was done right. Hockney, McManus, and Keaton were there to clear the Hungarians and Argentinians who were making the deal for the witness. They thought it was about the money. Soze offed them each personally too so they couldn't testify against him. And he walked off with the 91 million dollars that he took after shooting Todd Hockney. The fire and explosion were meant to be certain that everyone was dead, and to make it hard to identify Keaton who he was setting up as his Keyser Soze ( Keaton already died in a fire according to Coujan, might he not try it again?) and to provide distraction to buy time so "Kobayashi" the "lawyer" could whack Edie Finneran, and he could walk away clean. Verbal(Soze) also goes from being rather meek during the rest of his story, to menacing and confrontational towards Agent Coujan. He gets in his face a little and says "Where's your head, Agent Coujan? Do you think a man like that would get 'this' close to getting caught and stick his head out?" Verbal says, his demeanor that of a man who was offended that someone would dare suggest that he messed up. He quickly cools and continues. The only mistake in the whole plan was that one of the Hungarians lived. So in conclusion in the most brilliant move ever made by a criminal, Soze made himself into a "spook story" long ago by doing just as Kint described and going underground. 91 million dollars Kint walked away with... makes it a lot easier to disappear. "My guess is you're never going to see him again Agent Coujan, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.... and like that... he's gone___________________
